Parents as we continue to transition to Schoology, I am phasing out the use of Seesaw. Please check back for updates to this page.

How does a student "pass off" a song?
Students are given the opportunity to play for Mrs. Tarnacki throughout the school year. In playing their song, they must show good playing technique (left hand on top, tongue each note, no squeaky notes, etc), good tone, correct rhythms with a minimum of mistakes or pauses.
When can a student "pass off" a song?
We also occasionally take time in music class to pass off songs, sometimes in front of the whole class, sometimes in small groups to play privately for Mrs. Tarnacki. When I am able, I will let classes know what mornings or afternoons I am available to pass off songs. Students will also have access to the Seesaw app to play for belts at home.
What are these belts?
Once the student has shown, through playing their next song adequately, the student is awarded a "belt" (similar to that awarded for passing a Karate test). If a student earns a belt in class but plays the song on a borrowed recorder or does not own a recorder, Mrs Tarnacki will write down in his playing log that she owes this belt to the student; upon purchase of a recorder or bringing their own recorder to school, Mrs Tarnacki will put the belt on their recorder.
What is the Seesaw app?
To assist student learning this year, students have access to the app Seesaw (also called Seesaw Class or Seesaw:The Learning Journal, based on the tablet or smart device you are using). The use of Seesaw is completely voluntary. Students will be able to play for their karate belts at home and participate in other extra credit learning opportunities through the use of the app. Instructions for downloading and signing in to Seesaw where included in your child's folder. If you need another sheet, I can send one home with your child. Also included in the folder was a sheet with instructions for a second app Seesaw Family, where you or other family members can stay connected to your child’s learning in music. Please note, if you choose not to use Seesaw, your child will still be able to play for karate belts during class time.
